1-1                         SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1150
 1-2           WHEREAS, On March 2, 1980, on Texas Independence Day, a
 1-3     group of 177 students met at the Stephen F. Austin Hotel in Austin
 1-4     and founded the Young Conservatives of Texas, intending to attract
 1-5     students from the mainstream who believe in a conservative
 1-6     philosophy of government; and
 1-7           WHEREAS, A nonpartisan, independent youth organization on
 1-8     college campuses across the state, the group affords students the
 1-9     opportunity of participating in the political process; and
1-10           WHEREAS, By maintaining an active lobby at the legislature,
1-11     the next generation of voting Texans are educated and trained to be
1-12     energetically involved in state politics; the Young Conservatives
1-13     of Texas has compiled nearly 25 years' worth of ratings on the
1-14     Texas Legislature; and
1-15           WHEREAS, A powerful force on campuses, the Young Conservatives
1-16     of Texas brings in speakers on a wide range of topics from foreign
1-17     policy to taxes to affirmative action; and
1-18           WHEREAS, Always active in political campaigns in election
1-19     years, the Young Conservatives of Texas makes sure its viewpoint
1-20     is heard; and
1-21           WHEREAS, At a time when the media has convinced the public
1-22     that the young people of today are apathetic about the world and
1-23     its problems, the members of the Young Conservatives of Texas are
 2-1     working hard for the principles in which they believe; and
 2-2           WHEREAS, This notable association of students will celebrate
 2-3     its 20th anniversary on March 2, 2000; now, therefore, be it
 2-4           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
 2-5     76th Legislature, hereby congratulate the members of the Young
 2-6     Conservatives of Texas when they observe their 20th anniversary;
 2-7     and, be it further
 2-8           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the
 2-9     group as an expression of the highest regard of the Texas Senate.
