1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1163 1-2 WHEREAS, The Bexar Metropolitan Water District has for 1-3 more than a half-century worked to ensure that area residents have 1-4 access to a plentiful source of usable water resources; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Created in 1945 by the 49th Texas Legislature, 1-6 the Bexar Metropolitan Water District is a political subdivision 1-7 responsible for the control, conservation, protection, preservation, 1-8 distribution, and utilization of rivers, streams, and underground 1-9 water, as well as storm and flood waters, within its jurisdiction; 1-10 and 1-11 WHEREAS, The district currently serves some 80,000 metered 1-12 residences and businesses and provides water to more than 325,000 1-13 individuals in Bexar, Atascosa, Comal, and Medina counties; and 1-14 WHEREAS, Among the water district's most challenging 1-15 project has been the enforced reduction of water allocations 1-16 from the Edwards Aquifer, but through determined and visionary 1-17 leadership, BexarMet has promoted a number of innovative 1-18 initiatives to address this necessary goal; and 1-19 WHEREAS, In recognition of its many notable achievements, 1-20 the Texas Natural Resource Conservation Commission honored the 1-21 district with its highest ranking, certifying BexarMet as a 1-22 superior rated utility; and 1-23 WHEREAS, Maintaining an abundant supply of water is 2-1 essential to ensuring a region's vitality, and the many outstanding 2-2 accomplishments in this regard by Bexar Metropolitan Water District 2-3 make it indeed worthy of special recognition at this time; now, 2-4 therefore, be it 2-5 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-6 76th Legislature, hereby commend the board of directors and staff 2-7 of the Bexar Metropolitan Water District and extend to them sincere 2-8 best wishes for continued success; and, be it further 2-9 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be 2-10 prepared for the Bexar Metropolitan Water District as an 2-11 expression of high regard from the Texas Senate. 2-12 Madla 2-13 ______________________________________ 2-14 President of the Senate 2-15 I hereby certify that the above 2-16 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-17 on May 28, 1999. 2-18 ______________________________________ 2-19 Secretary of the Senate 2-20 ______________________________________ 2-21 Member, Texas Senate
