 1-3                                     of
 1-4                          Edna Louise Taylor Miller
 1-5           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
 1-6     citizens of El Paso in mourning the loss of a dedicated citizen,
 1-7     Edna Louise Taylor Miller, who died at age 82 on April 24, 1999;
 1-8     and
 1-9           WHEREAS, After graduating from El Paso High School, Edna
1-10     first attended Texas College of Mines and later transferred to
1-11     the University of Southern California, earning her bachelor of
1-12     arts degree in sociology in 1937; in 1968, Edna earned her master's
1-13     degree in history from The University of Texas at El Paso; and
1-14           WHEREAS, Like her parents before her, Edna was an inspired
1-15     civic leader; she worked tirelessly for community organizations
1-16     including the El Paso County Historical Society, the El Paso Art
1-17     Museum, and the local Parent-Teacher Association; and
1-18           WHEREAS, A woman of great intellect, Edna was also a gifted
1-19     educator, teaching philosophy, world religions, world history, and
1-20     marriage and the family; a particularly cherished pastime for Edna
1-21     was stargazing, and she happily shared information about this
1-22     passion with family and friends; and
 2-1           WHEREAS, A woman of integrity, strength, and generosity,
 2-2     Edna gave unselfishly of her time to others; El Paso will miss the
 2-3     wisdom, warmth, and valued counsel of this beloved citizen; now,
 2-4     therefore, be it
 2-5           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
 2-6     76th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the family
 2-7     of Edna Louise Taylor Miller:  her sons, Mallory L. Miller, Jr.,
 2-8     and Paul Burke Miller; her daughter, Patricia Louise Miller; her
 2-9     brother, Reymond Taylor; and her four grandchildren and four
2-10     great-grandchildren; and, be it further
2-11           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
2-12     the members of her family as an expression of deepest sympathy
2-13     from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day,
2-14     it do so in memory of Edna Louise Taylor Miller.
