 1-3                                  In Memory
 1-4                                     of
 1-5                           Francisco Salas Porras
 1-6           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens
 1-7     of El Paso in mourning the loss of Francisco Salas Porras, who died
 1-8     May 2, 1999; and
 1-9           WHEREAS, A beloved member of his community, Mr. Salas Porras
1-10     will be remembered for being a devoted husband, father, grandfather,
1-11     and friend; and
1-12           WHEREAS, A native of El Paso, he was born November 2, 1924,
1-13     and was a member of the 1941 El Paso High School state basketball
1-14     championship team; upon graduation, he attended the University of
1-15     Southern California and transferred to Texas College of Mines, where
1-16     he received a bachelor of science degree in chemistry in 1947; and
1-17           WHEREAS, After serving with the occupational forces in Korea
1-18     following World War II, Francisco returned from his tour of duty and
1-19     moved his family to Los Angeles to become Vice President of Azteca
1-20     Films; and
1-21           WHEREAS, Returning with his family to El Paso in 1964,
 2-1     Mr. Salas Porras became owner and president of Sunland Motor Sport
 2-2     Center and retained his position until retiring in 1994; and
 2-3           WHEREAS, He freely gave his time and energy over the years to
 2-4     the Texas Disability Council, the El Paso City Charter Commission,
 2-5     Saint Matthew Catholic Church, and the El Paso Downtown Rotary Club;
 2-6     and
 2-7           WHEREAS, During his lifetime he established a permanent place
 2-8     for himself in the hearts of those who lived and worked with him;
 2-9     now, therefore, be it
2-10           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-11     76th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the members
2-12     of his family:  his wife, Josefina; his children, Anna Luisa, Marta,
2-13     Cristina, Alberto, Francisco, Jr., and Daniel; and his nine
2-14     grandchildren; and, be it further
2-15           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the
2-16     members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the
2-17     Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so
2-18     in memory of Francisco Salas Porras.
