 1-4                                     of
 1-5                              Frank Bryan Cook
 1-6           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens
 1-7     of Austin in mourning the death of a beloved community member,
 1-8     Frank Bryan Cook, on May 3, 1999; and
 1-9           WHEREAS, A Houston native, Frank came to Austin to attend
1-10     The University of Texas; charmed by the city's relaxed ambience
1-11     and strong sense of community, Frank quickly became an Austin
1-12     devotee; and
1-13           WHEREAS, Frank was a gifted entrepreneur; in 1971, he
1-14     launched his own business from his apartment, which evolved
1-15     into a well-known Austin establishment, Freewheeling Bicycles;
1-16     later, he co-founded the Wheatsville Co-op, a mainstay among
1-17     university-area businesses that sells organic produce and
1-18     foodstuffs; and
1-19           WHEREAS, To the city that brought him much happiness and
1-20     success, Frank dutifully gave back; he was renowned for his
1-21     community involvement and philanthropy, which is best evidenced
 2-1     by his co-founding of the Live Oak Foundation; the group managed
 2-2     to give over $10 million in grants to human rights organizations
 2-3     during its 10 years of existence; and
 2-4           WHEREAS, Frank Cook was a devoted father; a baseball coach,
 2-5     soccer coach, and Boy Scout leader, he was active in the life of
 2-6     his children; his family will forever cherish Frank's memory; and
 2-7           WHEREAS, The City of Austin was indeed fortunate to have
 2-8     Frank Cook as one of its citizens; his ingenuity and generosity
 2-9     helped make Austin an exceptional city; loved by his family,
2-10     friends, and community, Frank Cook truly lived life well; now,
2-11     therefore, be it
2-12           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-13     76th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the family
2-14     of Frank Bryan Cook:  his wife, Angela Prescott; his children,
2-15     Samantha and Crosby; his brothers, Stephen and Lawrence; and his
2-16     sister, Cita; and, be it further
2-17           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the
2-18     members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from
2-19     the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it
2-20     do so in memory of Frank Bryan Cook.
