Fiscal Analysis

The bill would reduce the period of time for timely registration of a
motor vehicle after expiration of the preceding registration year from
one month to five days. Registrations not completed in a timely manner
would be subject to an additional penalty of the higher of 20 percent of
the prescribed registration fee, or five dollars for each full or
partial calendar month that elapsed after the date the registration
expired beginning with the second month after that date.

Methodology

TxDOT estimates that the State Highway Fund 0006 would continue to
receive approximately 66 percent of the collections under this bill,
with the remainder going to the counties.
