LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD Austin, Texas FISCAL NOTE, 76th Regular Session May 14, 1999 TO: Honorable Frank Madla, Chair, Senate Committee on Intergovernmental Relations FROM: John Keel, Director, Legislative Budget Board IN RE: HB 108 by Alvarado (Relating to motor vehicle liability insurance for vehicles operated by peace officers in certain counties.), As Engrossed ************************************************************************** * No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated. * ************************************************************************** Local Government Impact The bill only applies to Bexar, Harris and Dallas Counties, and it would require that each county insure privately owned vehicles used for county business or law enforcement. According to the Comptroller, the cost to Bexar County would be approximately $33,275 per year and the cost to Harris County would be approximately $237,922 per year. This estimate is based on a $605 per vehicle annual basic insurance cost for 55 privately owned vehicles that would require liability insurance in Bexar County and a $674 per vehicle annual basic insurance cost for 353 privately owned vehicles that would require the insurance in Harris County. The cost assumes a Ford Crown Victoria sedan as the standard. Dallas County already provides county-owned vehicles for the sheriff, constables and constable deputies, so there would be no fiscal impact to Dallas County.
