Local Government Impact

The bill would require municipalities to collect an additional court cost
of $25 for certain offenses occurring within a school crossing zone.
Municipalities with populations over 400,000 already collect this
additional court cost. As an example, the City of San Antonio reports
current annual collections of $229,000 in such court costs.

The bill would result in additional revenues to municipalities, depending
on the number of offenses occurring within a school crossing zone. The
Town of Addison expects that the bill would result in additional
revenues of $11,500 per year. The City of Denton anticipates an
additional $4,000 per year. The City of Farmers Branch expects that the
amount of additional revenue generated by the bill would not be
significant.
