LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD Austin, Texas FISCAL NOTE, 76th Regular Session April 22, 1999 TO: Honorable Tom Ramsay, Chair, House Committee on County Affairs FROM: John Keel, Director, Legislative Budget Board IN RE: HB 770 by Davis, Yvonne (Relating to a municipality's request of assistance from a constable.), Committee Report 1st House, Substituted ************************************************************************** * No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated. * ************************************************************************** Local Government Impact A county providing the assistance of constables to municipalities could incur costs associated with the salary and benefits of such constables. The cost would depending on the type of assistance a municipality would request, the number of hours of constable time municipal requests would require and whether a county's constables could absorb the additional workload using existing resources. Since the bill does not provide for reimbursement of costs to a county by a municipality, the bill could result in negative fiscal implications to a county that would have to hire additional staff or require existing staff to work overtime to provide constable services to a municipality. A municipality could experience savings as a result of the bill's enactment, if the municipality could use constable assistance instead of hiring additional employees or requiring additional overtime by existing employees. The savings would depend on the amount of constable assistance received. Source Agencies: LBB Staff: JK, TL
