LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD Austin, Texas FISCAL NOTE, 76th Regular Session April 20, 1999 TO: Honorable Gary Walker, Chair, House Committee on Land & Resource Management FROM: John Keel, Director, Legislative Budget Board IN RE: HB 775 by Greenberg (relating to the regulation of subdivisions by certain counties), Committee Report 1st House, Substituted ************************************************************************** * No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated. * ************************************************************************** Local Government Impact A county choosing to establish a planning commission could incur additional expenses associated with staff, office space and materials. The cost would depend on whether a county already has staff and other resources available to dedicate to a planning commission. Three affected counties provided fiscal impact estimates for the bill. Harris County and Denton County both anticipate no significant fiscal implications, since existing departments already perform much of the responsibilities that a planning commission is expected to require. Travis County expects that the establishment of a planning commission could increase administrative expenses in several county departments and require additional office space but could not provide an exact estimate of the cost.
