LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD Austin, Texas FISCAL NOTE, 76th Regular Session March 8, 1999 TO: Honorable Ron Wilson, Chair, House Committee on Licensing & Administrative Procedures FROM: John Keel, Director, Legislative Budget Board IN RE: HB1814 by Brimer (Relating to a local option election for the sale of mixed beverages in restaurants), As Introduced ************************************************************************** * No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated. * * * * The bill would make no appropriation but could provide the legal * * basis for an appropriation of funds to implement the provisions of * * the bill. * ************************************************************************** Local Government Impact The fiscal impact of the bill is not expected to be significant to local governments; however, the provisions of the bill that reduce the percentage of voters required to petition for a local option election from 35 percent to 25 percent could result in more local option elections and an increase in costs associated with such elections to local governments. The costs would depend on the population of the area participating in the local option election. Based on a recent survey of cities and counties, it is estimated that the median cost of a local election is $.52 per resident. Source Agencies: LBB Staff: JK, TH, MG, JN
