LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD Austin, Texas FISCAL NOTE, 76th Regular Session April 19, 1999 TO: Honorable Paul Sadler, Chair, House Committee on Public Education FROM: John Keel, Director, Legislative Budget Board IN RE: HB2139 by Gutierrez (Relating to compensation for public school classroom teachers and full-time librarians for additional days of service), As Introduced ************************************************************************** * No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated. * ************************************************************************** Local Government Impact The cost of teacher compensation for additional days of service would be solely a local cost. Based on the 187 days of service required for school year 1998-99, the formula in the bill would increase the minimum monthly salary of a teacher/librarian by 0.535% for each additional day of service required. If the statutorily required number of days increases, the quotient would decrease slightly for each additional day increased. It appears that many districts currently reimburse teachers in a similar manner for additional days of service required locally. As a result, it is anticipated that districts would incur relatively insignificant additional local costs associated with this bill.
