Local Government Impact

The bill would reduce requirements for some types of peace officer's and
county jailer's continuing education from every 24 months to every 48
months. The savings to local government could be substantial. Savings
for peace officer training could be as great as $13,909,352 per year
(58,898 peace officers x 16 hours of training x $14.76 per hour [The
findings in a recent survey of 165 agencies]). The maximum savings for
county jail officers who take 8 hours of training x $10 per hour x
19,359 county jail officers equals $1,548,720. The total of the two
equals a potential savings of $15,458,072.
