Fiscal Analysis
The bill would exempt certain motor carriers from obtaining overweight
permits.
Methodology
Federal regulations stipulate that qualifying overweight trucks must
purchase a permit to operate on the federal aid highway system. If a
state does not meet the criteria to certify the enforcement, the United
States Department of Transportation can withhold 10 percent of a state's
federal aid highway apportionment. The Department of Transportation
estimates that 10 percent of the state's average future federal-aid
apportionment would be $187.0 million each fiscal year.
Local Government Impact
No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is
anticipated.
