LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD Austin, Texas FISCAL NOTE, 76th Regular Session April 6, 1999 TO: Honorable Juan Hinojosa, Chair, House Committee on Criminal Jurisprudence FROM: John Keel, Director, Legislative Budget Board IN RE: HB3249 by Allen (Relating to permitting local prosecutors to accept federal funds for the purpose of defraying a portion of the cost of prosecution.), As Introduced ************************************************************************** * No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated. * * * * The bill would make no appropriation but could provide the legal * * basis for an appropriation of funds to implement the provisions of * * the bill. * ************************************************************************** Local Government Impact The bill would except federal funds received by counties through the Department of Human Services from the prohibition against county and district attorneys accepting fees to defray the prosecution of cases. In counties already accepting such reimbursements, the bill would validate current practices and result in no fiscal impact. In counties currently not accepting reimbursements, there could be some revenue gain as a result of the bill's enactment. Denton County estimates that if the county would accept federal reimbursements for the prosecution of child support enforcement cases as a result of the bill's enactment, the county could realize additional revenues of $25,000 annually.
