Fiscal Analysis The bill would allow the Commisssion on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education to appoint as a special retired peace officer an honorably retired officer of a municipal police department, a sheriff's department, or a constable's department. Methodology There are thousands of qualified officers currently retired. Their interest in appointments as special retired peace officers can only be estimated. Assuming 10% per year out of 17,818 potentially eligible yields 1,782 candidates per year. The development of application procedures, the review of potential appointees, in-service training and other requirements to reactivate licenses would require 11 additional employees: two Program Administrators III, five Program Administrators II, one Administrative Technician I and three Administrative Technicians II. Local Government Impact No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
