Local Government Impact
The bill would require counties with a population of 25,000 or more to
purchase video equipment for recording persons charged with the offense
of driving a motor vehicle while intoxicated. All persons arrested for
DWI would have to be videotaped in the county in which they were
arrested. Videotapes would have to be maintained until the final
disposition of a proceeding, and they would have to be made available to
any attorney representing the defendant.
Counties with a population of 25,000 or more would be required to obtain
and maintain video equipment which could have a negative fiscal impact
on county budgets. The cost to counties would depend on the amount of
equipment necessary to implement the bill's provisions.
