LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD Austin, Texas FISCAL NOTE, 76th Regular Session March 31, 1999 TO: Honorable Irma Rangel, Chair, House Committee on Higher Education FROM: John Keel, Director, Legislative Budget Board IN RE: HB3634 by Naishtat (Relating to certain fees charged at certain institutions of higher education.), As Introduced ************************************************************************** * No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated. * * * * The bill would make no appropriation but could provide the legal * * basis for an appropriation of funds to implement the provisions of * * the bill. * ************************************************************************** The bill would authorize a student service fee not to exceed $.85 per semester credit hour for the renovation of the Aquatics Center at the Gregory Gym. Fee revenue generated would be approximately $1,030,200 annually, however collection of fees would not begin until Spring 2001 when renovation is completed. These fees are auxiliary in nature and do not impact state appropriations. A total of 16.75 full-time equivalent (FTE) staff would be needed to support the renovated facility. These FTE's would be paid from auxiliary funds and would not be subject to the institution's appropriated FTE cap.
