Local Government Impact

The bill would create County Courts at Law numbers 10, 11, and 12 in
Bexar County effective September 1, 1999. One court would give
preference to civil cases, the other two would give preference to
criminal cases.

The annual operating cost for the civil court would be $131,130. The
annual operating cost for each criminal court would be $403,314.

Bexar County would have a one-time capital cost of $3,511,830.

Each criminal court would generate $549,102 annually. The civil court
would not generate additional revenue because this revenue currently is
being generated by the auxillary court that would be converted into the
new civil County Court at Law.

Information on the capital and operating costs of the courts and
estimates on court revenue generation were provided by the Bexar County
Courts Administration office.
