Fiscal Analysis
The bill would create a cost-sharing program to eradicate the boll weevil
and pink bollworm which would be administered by the Commissioner of the
Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA).
The Senate Emergency Appropriations Bill (Senate Bill 472) includes
$25,000,000 from the General Revenue Fund to the TDA to pay costs and
expenses related to the eradication of cotton pests for the current
fiscal year 1999 in lieu of appropriations for fiscal year 2000.
Methodology
Total costs for the program are estimated to be up to $50,000,000 for the
2000-01 biennium. A fifty-percent state share is assumed.
Local Government Impact
No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
