LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD Austin, Texas FISCAL NOTE, 76th Regular Session March 24, 1999 TO: Honorable Florence Shapiro, Chair, Senate Committee on State Affairs FROM: John Keel, Director, Legislative Budget Board IN RE: SB785 by Wentworth (Relating to autopsy reports.), As Introduced ************************************************************************** * No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated. * ************************************************************************** Local Government Impact Since current law provides a fee for a copy of an autopsy report of only $5, and the bill would require counties to charge a minimum of $15 and a maximum of $25 for the autopsy report, counties would likely receive increased revenues as a result of the bill's enactment. The amount of additional revenue would depend on the number of autopsy reports requested by authorized persons and the exact fee the county would choose to impose within the specified range. Two counties provided estimates of the fiscal impact of the bill. Travis County indicated that the bill would generate approximately $32,000 in additional annual revenue. Brazos County indicated that imposing the $25 fee would produce about $4,700 in additional revenue per year. Source Agencies: LBB Staff: JK, SD, TL
