LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD Austin, Texas FISCAL NOTE, 76th Regular Session April 9, 1999 TO: Honorable Florence Shapiro, Chair, Senate Committee on State Affairs FROM: John Keel, Director, Legislative Budget Board IN RE: SB785 by Wentworth (relating to autopsy reports), Committee Report 1st House, Substituted ************************************************************************** * No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated. * ************************************************************************** Local Government Impact Since current law provides a fee for a copy of an autopsy report of only $5, and the bill would allow counties to charge a maximum fee of $25 for the autopsy report, counties would likely receive increased revenues as a result of the bill's enactment. The amount of additional revenue would depend on the number of autopsy reports requested by authorized persons and the exact fee the county would choose to impose. Two counties provided estimates of the fiscal impact of the bill. Travis County indicated that the bill would generate approximately $32,000 in additional annual revenue. Brazos County indicated that imposing the $25 fee would produce about $4,700 in additional revenue per year. Source Agencies: 304 Comptroller of Public Accounts LBB Staff: JK, SD, TL
