Fiscal Analysis

The bill would bring the Dallas County Criminal District Attorney under
the Professional Prosecutors Act effective September 1, 1999.

Methodology

Under current law, the state pays $74,112 into the Dallas County Salary
Fund and $17,050 per year for office expenses. A district attorney
under the Professional Prosecutors Act is paid $150,517 for salary,
benefits and office expenses. The bill would cause the Dallas County
Criminal District Attorney to show as an additional Full Time Equivalent
in the appropriations bill, although the attorney would remain a county
employee.

Local Government Impact

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is
anticipated.
