The House Committee on Redistricting 76th Legislature March 4, 2000 10:00 a.m. George R. Brown Convention Center, Houston, Texas, Room305 Pursuant to a notice posted on February 28, 2000, the House Committee on Redistricting met with the Senate Committee on Redistricting in a public hearing and was called to order by the chair, Representative Jones, Delwin, at 10:05 a.m. The roll was answered as follows: Present: Representatives Jones, Delwin; Bosse; Dunnam; Grusendorf; Hunter; Pitts (6). Absent: Representatives Glaze; Counts; Marchant; Moreno, Paul; Wilson (5). A quorum was present. Chairman Jones thanked the city of Houston for hosting this redistricting hearing. Houston City Council members John Castillo and Gabriel Vasquez welcomed the House and Senate Committees on Redistricting to Houston. The Chair recognized Representatives Noriega, Zbranek, Williams, and Coleman. Invited testimony was taken as follows: (See attached witness list.) David Hanna, Texas Legislative Council gave a presentation on One person, one vote. Marchall Turner, Jr. and Alfonso Mirabal of the U.S. Census Bureau spoke regarding the Census. At 11:55 a.m., on the motion of the chair and without objection, the meeting was recessed until 1:00 p.m., March 4, 2000. The committee reconvened at 1:25 p.m. and was called to order by the chair, Representative Jones, Delwin. The committe continued to hear testimony from Marshall Turner, Jr. and Alfonso Mirabal. Additional testimony was given by Dr. Steve Murdoch. Alan Ware, Texas Legislative Council, discussed population projections and commmunities of interest. The Chair recognized Representatives Noriega, Danburg, Olivo and Yarbrough. Public testimony was taken. (See attached witness list.) At 4:20 p.m., on the motion of Representative Bosse and without objection, the meeting was recessed subject to the call of the chair. ________________________ Rep.
