The House Committee on Higher Education 76th Legislature September 19, 2000 9:00 a.m. Capitol Extension, E2.016 Pursuant to a notice posted on September 8, 2000, the House Committee on Higher Education met in a public hearing and was called to order by the acting chair, Representative Henry Cuellar, at 9:14 a.m. The roll was answered as follows: Present: Representatives Henry Cuellar; Geanie Morrison; Elvira Reyna(3). Absent: Representatives Irma Rangel; Fred Brown; David Farabee; Tony Goolsby; Jesse Jones; Arlene Wohlgemuth (6). (Representative Jesse Jones now present.) Testimony was taken on the following interim charges: Interim Charge Three: "Study trends in funding sources, including tuition, fees and appropriations, and expenses, including salaries, inflation and institution-specific costs to determine if institutions have the necessary resources to achieve their mission." Interim Charge Four: "Evaluate the need for additional flagship and research institutions to determine necessary changes in the governance structure of higher education systems and institutions."
