MINUTES SENATE COMMITTEE ON ADMINISTRATION Tuesday, April 20, 1999 8:30 am E1.714 ***** Pursuant to a notice posted in accordance with Senate Rule 11.11, a public hearing of the Senate Committee on Administration was held on Tuesday, April 20, 1999 in E1.714, at Austin, Texas. ***** MEMBERS PRESENT: MEMBERS ABSENT: Senator Chris Harris Senator Frank Madla Senator Rodney Ellis Senator Florence Shapiro Senator John Whitmire ***** The Chair called the meeting to order at 9:10 am. There being a quorum present, the following business was transacted. The following members arrived after the roll was called: none. Senator Harris asked the members to look at the minutes from the April 15, 1999 Administration Committee meeting. Senator Whitmire moved adoption of the minutes. Without objection the minutes were adopted. Senator Harris passed the gavel to Senator Ellis. The Chair laid out HB1193 and recognized the Senate sponsor, Senator Harris, to explain the bill. Senator Harris sent up Committee Amendment 1 and moved adoption. The motion carried with a vote of 3 ayes, 0 nays, 0 present not voting, and 2 absent. Witnesses testifying and registering on the bill are shown on the attached list. Senator Ellis moved that HB1193, as amended, be reported back to the Senate with the recommendation that it do pass and be printed. The motion carried with a vote of 3 ayes, 0 nays, 0 present not voting, and 2 absent. Senator Harris moved that the bill be recommended for placement on the Local & Uncontested Calendar; without objection, it was so ordered. Senator Harris resumed the chair and directed the Committee to the list of bills recommended for the Local and Uncontested Calendar. Senator Harris stated that SB 1327, SB 1533 and SB 1734 had all passed on the Senate floor on April 19, 1999. Senator Harris asked if there were any questions or discussion on any of the bills listed. There was discussion and SB 324 by Ellis, SB 918 by Wentworth and SB 1061 by Bivins were not certified for the Local Calendar for April 22, 1999. Senator Ellis moved to certify all the remaining bills on the list. The motion carried with a vote of 3 ayes, 0 nays, 0 present not voting, and 2 absent. There being no further business, at 9:20 am Senator Harris moved that the Committee stand recessed subject to the call of the Chair.
