MINUTES SENATE SUBCOMMITTEE ON TECHNOLOGY & BUSINESS GROWTH Thursday, February 18, 1999 8:30 am Capitol Extension, Room E1.028 ***** Pursuant to a notice posted in accordance with Senate Rule 11.11, a public hearing of the Senate Committee on Subcommittee on Technology & Business Growth was held on Thursday, February 18, 1999 in the Capitol Extension, Room E1.028, at Austin, Texas. ***** MEMBERS PRESENT: MEMBERS ABSENT: Senator Troy Fraser Senator Frank Madla Senator John Carona Senator Mike Jackson Senator John Whitmire ***** The Chair called the meeting to order at 8:35 am. There being a quorum present, the following business was transacted. The following members arrived after the roll was called: Senator John Whitmire The Chair asked that the minutes from the previous meeting (2/11/99) be approved. Hearing no objection the minutes were approved. The Chair announced that SB 437 by Nixon would not be heard today because the author had pulled the bill. The Chair laid out SJR 8 and recognized the author, Senator Carona, to explain the bill. Witnesses testifying and registering on the bill are shown on the attached list. At 9:10 am Senator Madla assumed the chair. Senator Madla moved that SJR 8 be left pending until Senator Fraser returned; without objection, it was so ordered. The Chair laid out SB 34 and recognized the author, Senator Shapiro, to explain the bill. Witnesses testifying and registering on the bill are shown on the attached list. Senator Whitmire moved that SB 34 be reported favorably to the Economic Development Committee with the recommendation that it do pass and be printed. The motion carried with a vote of 4 ayes, 0 nays, 0 present not voting, and 1 absent. Senator Carona moved that SJR 8 be reported favorably to the Economic Development Committee with the recommendation that it do pass and be printed. The motion carried with a vote of 3 ayes, 1 nay, 1 present not voting, and 0 absent. There being no further business, at 9:27 am Senator Madla moved that the Committee stand recessed subject to the call of the Chair.
