         Pursuant to a notice posted in accordance with Senate Rule  
         11.18, a public hearing of the Senate Committee on Criminal  
         Justice was held on Wednesday, March 22, 2000, in the Senate  
         Chamber at Austin, Texas.

         The chair called the meeting to order at 1:45 p.m.  There being  
         a quorum present, the following business was transacted:   
          
         The Chairman reviewed Interim Charges 4, 5, and 8 and explained  
         that these were the charges being taken up at this meeting. 
          
         The Chairman reviewed Charge 4 and asked for invited and public  
         testimony.  The witnesses testifying on Charge 4 are shown on  
         the attached list. 
          
         The Chairman reviewed Charge 5 and asked for invited and public  
         testimony.  The witnesses testifying on Charge 5 are shown on  
         the attached list. 
          
         The Chairman reviewed Charge 8 and asked for invited and public  
         testimony.  The witnesses testifying on Charge 8 are shown on  
         the attached list. 
          
         There being no further business, at 7:20 p.m. Senator Armbrister  
         moved that the Committee stand recessed subject to the call of  
         the chair.  Without objection, it was so ordered.
