Governor's Committee Room ***** Pursuant to a notice posted in accordance with Senate Rule 11.11, a public hearing of the Senate Committee on Veteran Affairs & Military Installations was held on Monday, May 10, 1999 in Lt. Governor's Committee Room, at Austin, Texas. ***** MEMBERS PRESENT: MEMBERS ABSENT: Senator Carlos F. Truan Senator Gregory Luna Senator Steve Ogden Senator Troy Fraser Senator Eliot Shapleigh ***** The Chair called the meeting to order at 12:10 pm. The Clerk called the roll and a quorum was present. Chairman Truan laid out HB 3161 and recognized the author, Senator Sibley, to explain the bill. Mr. Bill Dake, of the City Council of McGregor, Texas, was called to testify. The Chair recognized Senator Ogden for questions. There being no further testimony or questions, the hearing was closed. Senator Ogden moved that HB 3161 be reported favorably to the full Senate with the recommendation that it do pass and be printed. The motion carried with a vote of 3 ayes, 0 nays, and 2 absent. Senator Shapleigh requested unanimous consent to certify the bill for the Local & Uncontested Calendar; without objection, it was so ordered. Chairman Truan turned the gavel over to Senator Ogden to preside at the hearing at this time. Senator Ogden, the Chair, laid out HB 1804, and recognized Senator Truan, on behalf of Senator Armbrister, to explain the bill. There being no questions or testimony, the hearing was closed. Senator Truan moved that HB 1804 be reported favorably to the full Senate with the recommendation that it do pass and be printed. The motion carried with a vote of 3 ayes, 0 nays, and 2 absent. Senator Shapleigh requested unanimous consent to certify the bill for the Local & Uncontested Calendar; without objection, it was so ordered. Senator Ogden turned the gavel back to Chairman Truan. The Chair laid out SCR 64 and recognized Senator Shapleigh, to explain the bill on behalf of Senator Nixon. There being no questions or testimony, the hearing was closed. At the request of Senator Shapleigh, SCR 64 was left pending. Without objection, it was ordered. Senator Truan laid SR 851, and recognized Senator Ogden to explain the bill on behalf of Senator Madla. There being no questions or testimony, the hearing was closed. Senator Ogden moved that SR 851 be reported favorably to the full Senate with the recommendation that it do pass and be printed. The motion carried with a vote of 3 ayes, 0 nays, and 2 absent. Senator Ogden requested unanimous consent to certify SR 851 for the Local & Uncontested Calendar; without Objection, it was so ordered. The Chair laid out the May 3, 1999 and May 6, 1999 minutes and recognized Senator Shapleigh who moved for approval. There being no objection, the minutes were adopted. There being no further business, at 12:25 p.m., Senator Ogden moved the committee stand recessed subject to call of the Chair.
