MINUTES SENATE COMMITTEE ON VETERAN AFFAIRS AND MILITARY INSTALLATIONS Thursday, May 13, 1999 12:00 p.m. or upon Adjournment Senator Truan's Desk ***** Pursuant to a notice posted in accordance with Senate Rule 11.11, a public hearing of the Senate Committee on Veteran Affairs & Military Installations was held on Thursday, May 13, 1999 at Senator Truan's desk on the floor of the Senate, State Capitol, Austin, Texas. ***** MEMBERS PRESENT: MEMBERS ABSENT: Senator Carlos F. Truan Senator Gregory Luna Senator Steve Ogden Senator Troy Fraser Senator Eliot Shapleigh ***** The Chair called the meeting to order at 2:25 pm. The Clerk called the roll. A quorum was present. Chairman Truan laid out HB 3114, and recognized Senator Shapleigh, on behalf of Senator Madla, to explain the bill. There being no questions or testimony, the hearing was closed. Senator Shapleigh moved that HB 3114 be reported favorably to the full Senate with the recommendation that it do pass and be printed. The motion carried with a vote of 3 ayes, 0 nays, and 2 absent. Senator Ogden requested unanimous consent to certify HB 3114 on the Local & Uncontested Calendar; without objection, it was so ordered. The Chair laid out HB 2768, and recognized its sponsor, Senator Shapleigh to explain the bill. Mr. Bob Geyer, with the Disability Policy Consortium, was recognized to give testimony. There being no further questions or public testimony, the hearing was closed. Senator Shapleigh moved that HB 2768 be reported favorably to the full Senate with the recommendation that it do pass and be printed. The motion carried with a vote of 3 ayes, 0 nays, and 2 absent. Senator Shapleigh requested that HB 2768 not be placed on the Local & Uncontested Calendar. Chairman Truan turned the gavel over to Senator Ogden to preside at the meeting at this time. Senator Ogden, the Chair, laid out HB 1743, and recognized Senator Truan, its sponsor to explain the bill. There being no questions or testimony the hearing was closed. Senator Truan moved that HB 1743 be reported favorably to the full Senate with the recommendation that it do pass and be printed. The motion carried with a vote of 3 ayes, 0 nays, and 2 absent. Senator Shapleigh requested unanimous consent to certify the bill for the Local & Uncontested Calendar; without objection, it was so ordered. Senator Ogden turned the gavel back to Chairman Truan. The Chair laid out the May 10, 1999 minutes and recognized Senator Ogden who moved for approval. There being no objections, the minutes were adopted. There being no further business, at 2:29 p.m. Senator Shapleigh moved that the Senate Committee on Veteran Affairs and Military Installations stand recessed subject to the call of the Chair.
