The Senate Education Committee will conduct a public hearing beginning at
9:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 10 at the University of North Texas System
Center at 8915 Hampton Road in Dallas, Texas.  The purpose of this hearing
is to seek input from citizens regarding the future of public education
in the state of Texas.  In announcing the hearing, Senator Teel Bivins,
chair of the Senate Education Committee, noted that many of the reforms
which have led to Texas students recently receiving recognition for their
academic preformance on national tests began with concerns and ideas raised
by citizens more than 15 years ago.  Bivins said, "Although we are now a
role model for other states, it doesn't mean we should rest on our
laurels."
