SENATE NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING COMMITTEE: Education TIME & DATE: 9:30AM, Wednesday, March 1, 2000 PLACE: Midland College CHAIR: Senator Teel Bivins ___________________________________________________________________________ The Senate Education Committee will conduct a public hearing beginning at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 1 at Midland College at 3600 N. Garfield in Midland, Texas. The hearing will take place in the Wagner and Brown Auditorium in the Allison Fine Arts Building. The purpose of this hearing is to seek input from citizens regarding the future of public education in the state of Texas. In announcing the hearing, Senator Teel Bivins, chair of the Senate Education Committee, noted that many of the reforms which have led to Texas students recently receiving recognition for their academic performance on national tests began with concerns and ideas raised by citizens more than 15 years ago. Bivins said, "Although we are now a role model for other states, it doesn't mean we should rest on our laurels." ___________________________________________________________________________
