SENATE NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING COMMITTEE: Education TIME & DATE: 9:30AM, Wednesday, May 24, 2000 PLACE: Laredo, Texas CHAIR: Senator Teel Bivins ___________________________________________________________________________ The Senate Education Committee will conduct a public hearing beginning at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 24 at Texas A&M International University at 5201 University Boulevard in Laredo, Texas. The hearing will take place in Bob Bullock Hall, room # 101. The purpose of this hearing is to seek input from citizens regarding the future of public education in the state of Texas. In announcing the hearing, Senator Teel Bivins, chair of the Senate Education Committee, noted that many of the reforms which have led to Texas students recently receiving recognition for their academic performance on national tests began with concerns and ideas raised by citizens more than 15 years ago. Bivins said, "Although we are now a role model for other states, it doesn't mean we should rest on our laurels." ___________________________________________________________________________
