DIGEST AND PURPOSE

Current law requires the Texas Department of Transportation to issue a
specially designed license plate for a vehicle owned by a surviving spouse,
parent or adult child of a person killed in the line of duty as a peace
officer. Siblings and stepchildren of, or children adopted by, a person
killed in the line of duty as a peace officer are not currently eligible to
receive the specially designed license plate. H.B. 149 requires the Texas
Department of Transportation to issue a specially designed license plate
for a vehicle owned by a brother, sister, adopted child, or stepchild of a
person killed in the line of duty as a peace officer.

RULEMAKING AUTHORITY

This bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to a
state officer, institution, or agency.
