SRC-CTC H.B. 350 77(R) BILL ANALYSIS Senate Research Center H.B. 350 By: Wise (Sponsor Unknown) Intergovernmental Relations 5/11/2001 Engrossed DIGEST AND PURPOSE Current law requires the commissioners court in a county with a population of 200,000 or more to maintain a veterans county service office. Some veterans have experienced problems receiving effective service from their veterans county service office. H.B. 350 authorizes a resident of a county with a population of 200,000 or more to bring a writ of mandamus to require the commissioners court to maintain a veterans county service office that is separate and distinct from other county offices. RULEMAKING AUTHORITY This bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, institution, or agency. SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS SECTION 1. Amends Section 434.032, Government Code, to authorize a resident of a county to bring a writ of mandamus to require the commissioners court to perform the commissioners court's duties under Subsection (a)(1). SECTION 2. Effective date: upon passage or September 1, 2001.
