DIGEST AND PURPOSE 

Currently, a member of a fire department who performs fire arson
investigation is not entitled to civil service status.  H.B. 1388 expands
the definition of "fire fighter" to include fire arson investigators. 

RULEMAKING AUTHORITY

This bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to a
state officer, institution, or agency.  

SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS

SECTION 1.  Amends Section 143.003(4), Local Government Code, to include a
fire arson investigator in the definition of a "fire fighter" who is
entitled to civil service status under Section 143.005 or 143.084. 

SECTION 2.  Effective date: September 1, 2001.
