SRC-MKV H.B. 1671 77(R) BILL ANALYSIS Senate Research Center H.B. 1671 77R8443 JSA-DBy: Hochberg (Ellis) Education 4/30/2001 Engrossed DIGEST AND PURPOSE Allied health science schools traditionally offer an array of small certificate and baccalaureate allied health programs. Formerly, The University of Texas School of Allied Health Sciences at Houston only offered certificate and baccalaureate degrees in allied health programs. However, the school has since been approved to offer graduate programs in contemporary research and health care areas, including health education research technology and computational biomedicine. A change in the name would better reflect the new focus of the school. H.B. 1671 modifies the name of The University of Texas School of Allied Health Sciences at Houston to The University of Texas School of Health Information Sciences at Houston. RULEMAKING AUTHORITY This bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, institution, or agency. SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS SECTION 1. Amends Section 65.02(a), Education Code, to change a reference from "The University of Texas School of Allied Health Sciences at Houston" to "The University of Texas School of Health Information Sciences at Houston." SECTION 2. Effective date: September 1, 2001.
