HBA-SEP, LJP H.B. 1671 77(R) BILL ANALYSIS Office of House Bill AnalysisH.B. 1671 By: Hochberg Higher Education 3/5/2001 Introduced BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Allied health science schools traditionally offer an array of small certificate and baccalaureate allied health programs. Formerly, The University of Texas School of Allied Health Sciences at Houston only offered certificate and baccalaureate degrees in allied health programs. However, the school has since been approved to offer graduate programs in contemporary research and healthcare areas, including health education research technology and computational biomedicine. A change in the name would better reflect the new focus of the school. House Bill 1671 modifies the name of The University of Texas School of Allied Health Sciences at Houston to The University of Texas School of Health Information Sciences at Houston. RULEMAKING AUTHORITY It is the opinion of the Office of House Bill Analysis that this bill does not expressly delegate any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, department, agency, or institution. ANALYSIS House Bill 1671 amends the Education Code to change the name of The University of Texas School of Allied Health Sciences at Houston to The University of Texas School of Health Information Sciences at Houston. EFFECTIVE DATE September 1, 2001.
