DIGEST AND PURPOSE

Under current law, the Webb County Commissioner Court is authorized to
impose a courthouse security fee not to exceed $20 to be collected at the
time of filing in each civil case filed in the county court, a county court
at law, or a district court in Webb County. Also the commissioners court of
any county may set a security fee not to exceed $5 to be collected at the
time of filing in each civil case filed. It is unclear whether the law
allows Webb County to charge a maximum of $20 or $25 for a security fee.
H. B. 2347 clarifies the provisions and authorizes Webb County to charge a
maximum $20 security fee.
