Under current Texas law, only the district judges of Nueces County are authorized to impanel juries. H.B. 2679 authorizes statutory county court judges in Nueces County to impanel juries. RULEMAKING AUTHORITY This bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, institution, or agency. SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS SECTION 1. Amends Chapter 62D, Government Code, by adding Section 62.303, as follows: Sec. 62.303. AUTHORITY OF COUNTY COURT AT LAW JUDGES IN NUECES COUNTY TO IMPANEL GENERAL JURY PANELS. Authorizes the judges of the county courts at law in Nueces County to impanel a general panel of jurors for service in the district and statutory county courts of the county in the same manner as the judges of district courts are authorized to impanel a general jury panel under Section 62.016. SECTION 2. Effective date: September 1, 2001.
