SRC-JEC H.B. 2874 77(R) BILL ANALYSIS Senate Research Center H.B. 2874 77R9156 PAM-FBy: Uher (Madla) Intergovernmental Relations 5/2/2001 Engrossed DIGEST AND PURPOSE Under current law, a county employee is able to transfer accrued sick leave or vacation time to a county sick leave pool to help an employee who suffers a catastrophic injury or illness. An employee is prohibited from using an amount of time that is more than one-third of the total time in the pool, or 90 days. H.B. 2874 increases from 90 to 180 days the total amount of time an employee may draw from the pool. RULEMAKING AUTHORITY This bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, institution, or agency. SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS SECTION 1. Amends Section 157.075(c), Local Government Code, to prohibit an eligible employee from using time in the county sick leave pool in an amount that exceeds the lesser of one-third of the total amount of time in the pool or 180, rather than 90, days. SECTION 2. Effective date: upon passage or September 1, 2001.
