DIGEST AND PURPOSE

Under current law, the district judges of Angelina County are required to
appoint bailiffs and set their salaries. The bailiffs are funded through
the county's budget which is set by the county commissioners court. The
bailiff's salary is not commensurate with the salaries of other officers.
H.B. 3356 allows for district and county court at law judges in Angelina
County to appoint a bailiff, and for the county commissioners court to set
the salary for bailiffs at not less than the salary of a deputy sheriff
assigned to regular duty.

state officer, institution, or agency.
