SRC-BWC, MKV S.B. 169 77(R) BILL ANALYSIS Senate Research Center S.B. 169 77R1816 ATP-FBy: Zaffirini Criminal Justice 3/26/2001 As Filed DIGEST AND PURPOSE Crime victims, including victims of domestic violence, may be reimbursed for moving expenses through the Crime Victims' Compensation Fund. As proposed, S.B. 169 revises the Crime Victims' Compensation Fund to allow for reimbursement of moving costs for sexual assault victims who otherwise would remain in their current living situation. Victims must comply with the same requirements as other crime victims to be entitled to reimbursement. S.B. 169 includes victims of sexual assault in the category of crime victims who may be entitled to reimbursement. RULEMAKING AUTHORITY This bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, institution, or agency. SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS SECTION 1. Amends Article 56.32(9), Code of Criminal Procedure, to redefine "pecuniary loss." SECTION 2. Amends Article 56.42(d), Code of Criminal Procedure, to authorize a victim who is a victim of domestic violence or sexual assault to receive a certain one-time only assistance payment. SECTION 3. Effective date: September 1, 2001. Makes application of this Act prospective.
