DIGEST AND PURPOSE

Currently, 80 percent of all United States-Mexico overland traffic goes
through Texas ports-of-entry, and 40 percent of this traffic continues
through Texas to other destinations in the United States and Canada. The
Federal Transportation Efficiency Act for the 21st century emphasizes
continued federal interest in identifying and promoting key international
highway trade corridors in the United States. As proposed, S.B. 225 directs
the Texas Department of Transportation to implement an integrated border
corridor plan.
