DIGEST AND PURPOSE 

Currently, the Texas Department of Human Services (DHS) administers the
summer food program in various school district facilities. C.S.S.B. 334
requires DHS to prepare quarterly reports summarizing the department's
progress in implementing the outreach program and to file those reports
with certain persons. 

RULEMAKING AUTHORITY

This bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to a
state officer, institution, or agency. 

SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS

SECTION 1. Amends Section 33.024, Human Resources Code, by amending
Subsection (m) and adding Subsection (n), as follows: 

(m) Requires the Texas Department of Human Services (department) to prepare
quarterly reports summarizing the department's progress in implementing the
outreach program required by Subsection (k) and file those reports with the
standing committees of the senate and house of representatives having
primary jurisdiction over health and human services. 

(n) Requires the department to administer a grant program designed to
encourage eligible organizations to serve as local sponsors or meal
preparation sites for the summer program by awarding a financial supplement
for each meal served from funds appropriated or otherwise made available
for that purpose. Redesignated from existing Subsection (m). 

SECTION 2. Effective date: September 1, 2001.

SECTION 1. Amends As Filed S.B. 334, Section 33.024, Human Resources Code,
by amending previously proposed Subsection (m) and adding Subsection (n).
Deletes previously proposed amendments to Subsections (e), (g), and (h).
