SRC-TBR S.B. 341 77(R) BILL ANALYSIS Senate Research Center S.B. 341 77R4436 JMG-DBy: Carona Business & Commerce 1/30/2001 As Filed DIGEST AND PURPOSE Currently, third-party debt collectors and credit bureaus are required to provide forms to individuals who dispute the accuracy of items in the third-party debt collector's or credit bureau's file. As proposed, S.B. 341 removes the Texas Debt Collection Act's requirement that thirdparty debt collectors provide forms to individuals who dispute the accuracy of an item in the third-party debt collector's file. RULEMAKING AUTHORITY This bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, institution, or agency. SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS SECTION 1. Amends Section 392.202(a), Finance Code, to require the credit bureau to provide forms for the notice and, when requested, the credit bureau or third party debt collector is required to assist an individual in preparing the notice. SECTION 2. Effective date: September 1, 2001.
