SRC-TBR S.B. 435 77(R) BILL ANALYSIS Senate Research Center S.B. 435 77R5143 BDH-DBy: Staples Finance 2/9/2001 As Filed DIGEST AND PURPOSE Currently, an eligible, law enforcement employee is entitled to hazardous duty pay of $7 a month for each year of service, a factor that may contribute to turnover rates at several agencies. As proposed, S.B. 435 allows for $25 dollars a month to be paid in hazardous duty pay. RULEMAKING AUTHORITY This bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, institution, or agency. SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS SECTION 1. Amends Section 659.062(a), Government Code, providing that an eligible employee is entitled to hazardous duty pay of $25, rather than $7, a month for each year of service as an employee of this state in a position that requires the performance of hazardous duty, not to exceed 30 years of service. SECTION 2. Effective date: September 1, 2001.
