DIGEST AND PURPOSE

Currently, a teacher transferring to Texas from another state may purchase
a maximum of ten years service in the Teachers Retirement System of Texas.
S.B. 477 increases the number of years of service an out-of-state teacher
can purchase to 15 years, in order to create a greater incentive for
non-resident teacher candidates to work in a Texas school district.
