DIGEST AND PURPOSE

Galveston County gave land to the Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) for
the purpose of expanding their Southern Regional Medical Facility in Texas
City. After the expansion was complete, some of the land given to TDCJ
remained unused. As proposed, S.B. 1144 allows TDCJ to give the remaining
land back to Galveston County so that it may be used for the Esmond
Juvenile Justice Facility, which is adjacent to the TDCJ facility in Texas
City.
