SRC-JEC S.B. 1300 77(R) BILL ANALYSIS Senate Research Center S.B. 1300 By: Cain Health & Human Services 3/26/2001 As Filed DIGEST AND PURPOSE Current statutes are inconsistent regarding a physician who is practicing medicine without an annual registration receipt for the current year but who pays within a 30-day grace period. As proposed, S.B. 1300 clarifies that a physician is not considered to be practicing medicine without a license during the 30-day grace period for payment of the annual registration fee. RULEMAKING AUTHORITY This bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, institution, or agency. SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS SECTION 1. Amends Section 156.008(a), Occupations Code, to provide that practicing medicine without an annual registration receipt for the current year after the expiration of the 30-day grace period provided under Section 156.004 has the same effect as, and is subject to all penalties of, practicing medicine without a license. SECTION 2. Effective date: upon passage or September 1, 2001.
